All 2008-W American Eagle Platinum Uncirculated coins have been sold, according to the United States Mint online store.
The one ounce version was the final size remaining after the 1/2, 1/4, 1/10 and 4-coin set sold out earlier — the 1/2 ounce platinum just last week. The one ounce moved to the "product is not available" category Wednesday morning.
Collectors have watched the series closely since the Mint reduced its coin prices on November 13 and also announced the elimination of several hundred coins from its 2009 numismatic portfolio, including all options of the American Eagle Platinum Uncirculated Coins.

The sellout was expected, but the timing was unknown. On Tuesday, the Mint began listing the coin with a delayed shipping message of: "Product will be available for shipping 12/17/2008," indicating a closeout of the coin could be approaching soon.
A member of Coin Collector Site, which is a brand new social site in beta by CoinNews, discussed the possibility Tuesday after receiving two Mint emails:
"confirming that both of my platinum coin unc orders were canceled. NO MORE ORDERS WILL BE FILLED! Keep what you have because if you return it you will NOT get a replacement."
The collector may have been the first person to make the predictive call.
