US Mint sales were mixed. 2010 Proof Gold Eagles shined the brightest as a group, rebounding from their previous dip.
In fact, the one-half ounce Proof Gold Eagles are now gone, according to the US Mint which changed their status to sold out on Wednesday. The one-ounce size sold out in October.
In terms of gains, the Proof Gold Eagles rose 7,178, advancing 1,808 above their prior weekly increase. The one-half ounce size enjoyed the biggest pick-up with an addition of 1,535 versus 477. The US Mint said their total sales stood at 10,131 as of Sunday. That left more than 4,800 remaining based on a maximum mintage of 15,000. Their Wednesday sell-out, therefore, came as a surprise.
The US Mint has been known to list a product as sold out and then later bring it back. However, that normally does not occur after it has been moved to the Mint’s "No Longer Available" reference page, where the half ounce gold coin is now located.
2010 Proof Silver Eagle gains were trimmed, rising 38,066 compared to the prior 89,109. Their 834,879 is only 8,723 away from capturing the 3rd best sales numbers over past issues. That is impressive considering they were released late in the year (November 19) and their sales mark only the one-month level.
America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins ticked higher. Authorized Purchasers as of Monday have ordered 142,000 of the available 165,000. Collectors are still finding it extremely difficult to get their hands on them.
The recently issued America the Beautiful quarters coin sets are proving to be competitive with the smaller US Mint product offerings, but they are well off the pace of other annual sets. The uncirculated coin set advanced 1,043 to 17,350. The set, released on November 23, is the most popular of the three new quarter coin sets. Ironically, it could face cancellation in 2011 as the US Mint is discontinuing its satin finish on uncirculated coins ranging from the penny to the clad dollar.
