Available now from the Royal Canadian Mint are five 2012 Maple Leaf Forever Coins struck in varying sizes of platinum, gold and silver. The coins expand on a popular series which was introduced by the Mint last year.
The Royal Canadian Mint’s newest Forever Maple Leaf Coins include a massive one kilogram gold coin, a one ounce platinum coin, a one kilogram silver coin, a 1/10 ounce gold coin and a 1/2 ounce silver coin. All feature a unique reverse design showcasing Canada’s iconic emblem, the maple leaf.
Mintages for the new coins range from a miniscule 30 for the largest gold coin up to 100,000 for the smallest silver version.
2012 Forever Maple Leaf Coin Designs
The reverse design features a trilogy of maple leaves. It was designed by Luc Normandin and depicts one larger maple leaf at the center, with two smaller leaves behind and to each side of the large one. All three are joined at their bases by their petiole.
Reverse inscriptions vary dependent upon the coin in question but all feature "CANADA" inscribed across the top with "2012" at the bottom. Other inscriptions indicate the content, purity, the face value of the coin and designers initials "LM" toward the bottom of the leaves.
The obverse of each coin contains the Susanna Blunt effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Obverse inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II" and "D G REGINA."
