The first of four coins depicting one of North America’s most recognized creatures is now available through the Royal Canadian Mint’s 2014 White-Tailed Deer 1 oz. Fine Silver 4-Coin Subscription.
These coins are struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver, feature varying finishes, and are limited by the subscription to 7,500.
"These beautiful 99.99% pure silver 1-ounce coins feature the white-tailed deer—a Canadian symbol of nature’s still and constant presence," describes the Royal Canadian Mint. "The white-tailed deer is the smallest member of the deer family in North America but also the most widespread."
Coins of the series will ship in monthly intervals from August through November and bear a variety of finishes that "bring life and energy to every image."
The first coin, shipping this month, includes a three-quarter profile portrait of a male white-tailed deer with a 10-point antler rack. CANADA, 2014 and 20 DOLLARS are inscribed around the image along with initials of DMc for the artist who created the design, Desmond McCaffrey.
Struck as legal tender coins, obverses offer Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA.
These coins also have edge lettering that reflects the coin’s metal weight.
