Today, Nov. 18, the United States Mint released the 2014 Everglades National Park Quarters Three-Coin Set for $9.95, the same price as 14 past sets which remain available.
This is the last numismatic product of 2014 to feature America the Beautiful Quarters, although next year is right around the corner and another five with unique designs are already lined up on the launch pad.
Coins of this set honor the national park in Florida. Everglades quarters entered circulation on Nov. 3, 2014. An official ceremonial release is scheduled for Dec. 4, 2014.
Three-Coin Sets have one uncirculated coin from the Denver Mint, one uncirculated coin from the Philadelphia Mint and one proof coin from the San Francisco Mint. A mint mark of P, D or S notates the Mint of origin for each, and is located on the coin’s obverse (heads) side.
As shown in the above image, the quarters are held in a durable plastic card with a picturesque park photo on front and a back that offers printed details about the national park, the three coins and their designs. A Certificate of Authenticity is also provided.
Everglades National Park Quarter Design
The coin’s reverse design was inspired by the park’s bird population. Created by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Joseph Menna, it shows an anhinga with outstretched wings on a willow tree along with a roseate spoonbill visible in the mid-ground. Inscriptions around the scene read: EVERGLADES, FLORIDA, 2014 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Obverses are common among America the Beautiful Quarters. They bear the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.
