Six unique coins depicting six different superheroes could make for an ideal gift for a youngster — especially when they are grouped together and presented within a superpowers-themed coin album.
Available for AUS $81.82, or about US $70.45, is the Perth Mint’s complete set of six 2014 Young Collectors Super Powers Coins. Designs, all by artist Tom Vaughan, are distinctive with each portraying a mighty superhero using their special superpower.
Coins of the 2014 Young Collectors Super Powers Series had been released in staggered intervals throughout this year with the last of the six launching in October. In fact, they may still be purchased separately for AUS $13.59, or about US $11.70. What can’t be bought by itself and comes free when ordering the set is the decorative coin album.
As described by the Perth Mint of Australia, here’s a brief breakdown of the six coins:
Super Senses $1 Coin
The reverse of the Super Senses coin depicts a coloured superhero poised on a rooftop high above the city, using his x-ray vision and sonic hearing to see and listen to the city around him. The design also includes the inscription SUPER SENSES.
Invisibility $1 Coin
The Invisibility coin’s reverse depicts a coloured superhero balancing on the side of a multi-storey city building using her invisibility super power to blend into the bricks. The inscription INVISIBILITY also appears in the design.
Cybernetics $1 Coin
The reverse of the Cybernetics coin features a coloured representation of a cyborg with an artificial eye, and a mechanical arm and leg, kicking through a brick wall. The design also includes the inscription CYBERNETICS.
Flight $1 Coin
The Flight coin’s reverse depicts a coloured female superhero flying through space, with Earth in the background. The inscription FLIGHT also appears in the design.
Weather Control $1 Coin
The reverse of the Weather Control coin depicts a coloured superhero standing high up in the sky, on top of a radio tower on a high-rise building, generating lightening. The design also includes the inscription WEATHER CONTROL.
Super Strength $1 Coin
The Super Strength coin’s reverse depicts a coloured female superhero lifting a military tank into the air, with the skyline of a war torn city in the background. The inscription SUPER STRENGTH also appears in the design.
Coins of the series are struck in aluminum bronze, weigh 13.50 grams, have a diameter of 30.60 mm and have a thickness of 3.10 mm.
