The United States Mint released its latest annual product for collectors, the 2015 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set. This set of five clad quarter-dollars sells for $14.95.
This product presents the first opportunity for collectors to get all the 2015-dated quarters which feature unique artwork commemorating the following national sites:
- Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska
- Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana
- Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina
- Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware
- Saratoga National Historical Park in New York
Designs emblematic of these sites are depicted on reverses (tails side) while the other side of the coins share the same portrait of George Washington.
Each America the Beautiful Quarter is struck at least twice to maximize the detail and impart a proof finish where frosted designs attractively contrast against mirror-like backgrounds. The production site for these high-quality proof coins is the U.S. Mint facility in San Francisco, California, so each quarter has the "S" mint mark.
As seen above, the coins are placed in a protective lens to preserve their quality. The lens is then packaged in a box along with a certificate of authenticity. See how the San Francisco Mint produces and packages coins.
CoinNews ran an image-centric article in December that offers background on the five 2015 America the Beautiful Quarters designs and also lists the different artists and U.S. Mint sculptors that had a major role in creating them.
Ordering and Upcoming Quarter Products
Collectors can order 2015 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Sets via this U.S. Mint’s product page or by calling the toll-free number at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
No mintage limits, product limits, or household order limits exist for this proof set. The production total will be determined based on demand. If Mint figures for last year’s set are an indication, at least 100,000 will sell.
Other America the Beautiful Quarter products will debut this month. A 90% silver version of this set launches on Feb. 20 for $31.95. Then a couple of days later, on Feb. 24, the United States Mint will release the Homestead National Monument of America Quarter in rolls and bags at prices ranging from $18.95 to $46.95.
