Offering a new release celebrating the sesquicentennial of a Lewis Carroll classic, the Perth Mint of Australia has issued the 2015 150th Anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland 2 oz Silver Antiqued Clock Coin.
Composed in two ounces 99.9% pure silver and limited to 2,500, this coin features an antique finish and an innovative design which includes an integrated quartz movement watch.
"Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland follows the adventures of Alice, a young girl whose curiosity is sparked when she sees a talking White Rabbit wearing a waistcoat, and carrying a pocket watch, run past her as she is sitting with her sister on the riverbank," offers the Perth Mint on its website. "She follows him down a rabbit hole, into the imaginative and chaotic world of Wonderland, which is populated by anthropomorphic animals and creatures."
First published in 1865, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland immediately drew an impressive fan base that include Queen Victoria. The novel has continued to capture the imaginations of its readers throughout the last 150 years and has never been out of print.
Coin Designs and Specifications
Found within the coin’s center is a quartz movement watch complete with a likeness of the White Rabbit. Circling the watch face is a line from the book, ‘Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!’ The outer design offers a likeness of Alice, the Cheshire cat, and several playing cards. A small inscription reads: 2 OZ 999 SILVER.
Flipping the coin over finds centered inscription of "Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it’s getting!" Along with Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty are inscriptions of TUVALU, 2 DOLLARS, 2015 and QUEEN ELIZABETH II.
