US Mint Sales: Blue Ridge Parkway Quarters Debut

Blue Ridge Parkway Quarters
Blue Ridge Parkway quarters depict a winding road that hugs the side of a mountain as it leads up to a tunnel. North Carolina’s state flower is also prominently featured.

New America the Beautiful Quarter products appear on this week’s sales report. They include 25-cent pieces bearing a design emblematic of Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.

To start last week, United States Mint products with circulating-quality Blue Ridge Parkway quarters launched on Monday, June 29. Product options include rolls and bags of quarters struck in Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco with mint marks of ‘P’, ‘D’ and ‘S’. The number of quarters sold during the first seven days tallied to 2,179,320. That’s toward the upper end of other recent issues. Going back to the prior seven releases, they logged early sales of:

  • 2,055,840 for 2015 Kisatchie National Forest quarters,
  • 2,005,180 for 2015 Homestead National Monument quarters,
  • 1,918,160 for 2014 Everglades quarters,
  • 2,079,860 for 2014 Great Sand Dunes quarters,
  • 2,002,300 for 2014 Arches quarters,
  • 2,211,600 for 2014 Shenandoah quarters, and
  • 2,186,480 for 2014 Great Smoky Mountain quarters

Then on Tuesday, June 30, the U.S. Mint released the 2015 Harry S. Truman Coin & Chronicles Set. Selling out quickly with 16,780 of the 17,000 claimed within 15 minutes of release, its total changed modestly in this latest reporting period — up 45 to 16,825.

Wrapping up new product launches, Blue Ridge Parkway Quarters Three-Coin Sets debuted on Thursday, July 2. Their four-day sales reached 9,371. That’s a tad slower than normal openings but the set was still one of the Mint’s best-selling weekly products.

Lastly, after two straight weeks of unusual reported totals for John F. Kennedy Presidential $1 Coins, their numbers caught up to more normalized levels. Gains were sharp, and more likely the result of U.S. Mint corrections than actual sales from last week alone.

The U.S. Mint published sales updates to 242 numismatic products. One hundred and thirty-eight of them outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to 98 previously. Ten products increased by more than 1,000 units compared to 8 previously. Eleven products had their sales notched lower compared to 26 previously.

Dear Mr. Unser,
Regarding the sales figures of presidential $1 coins, the final line for presidents Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, and FDR all show changes from the preceding week, yet the gain/loss column doesn’t reflect any change. Why is that? Also, the asterisks after the Eisenhower 100 coin bags appear to be in error, as the Mint is still accepting orders for those products.

@Jim, thank you. Those first columns missed getting updated after a week in which there wasn’t a change reported for the product, and then they stayed that way. We fixed them.

I removed the asterisks for the Ike 100-coin bags.
