A platinum coin has joined The Perth Mint’s flagship annual bullion series, the Australian Kangaroo.
The kangaroo-themed program was introduced in gold back in 1989. A silver edition joined the series for the first time in 2016. Investors and collectors can now buy 2018-dated $100 Australian Kangaroo Platinum Bullion Coins.
"Offered solely as a 1oz release, it replaces the Australian Platypus as a convenient and cost-effective way to own pure platinum in the form of official legal tender," the Perth Mint said.
Struck in 1oz of 99.95% pure platinum, the coin’s reverse depicts the classic artistry of a bounding red kangaroo surrounded by rays of sunlight. Encircling inscription include AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the year 2018 and 1oz 9995 PLATINUM.
Obverses offer the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with surrounding inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and 100 DOLLARS.
