Gold and silver futures were little changed Monday. Platinum and palladium, meanwhile, logged losses.
Gold for December delivery shed 30 cents, or 0.02%, to finish at $1,511.10 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Gold and silver prices are near steady in midday U.S. trading Monday. Both safe-haven metals are showing keen resilience amid rallying world stock markets that saw the U.S. indexes score new record highs today," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a report a daily research note. "A firmer U.S. dollar index today was also a negative outside market factor for the precious metals."
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,510.80 to a high of $1,517.10. They edged up 0.4% last week.
Silver for December delivery climbed 1.4 cents, or 0.08%, to settle at $18.066 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $18.04 and $18.23. They rose 0.7% last week.
In other precious metals futures Monday:

January platinum dropped $15.30, or 1.6%, to $938.70 an ounce, ranging from $936.20 to $959.90.
- Palladium for December delivery declined $31.50, or 1.8%, to $1,752.80 an ounce, trading between $1,745.80 and $1,796.30. Last Wednesday, palladium posted a record settlement of $1,792.10 an ounce.
Last week, platinum gained 2.2% and palladium rose 2.3%.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Friday PM to Monday PM:
- Gold declined $2.15, or 0.1%, to $1,508.80 an ounce.
- Silver added 6.5 cents, or 0.4%, to $18.12 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
In LBMA results last week, gold shed 0.3%, silver slipped a half penny and platinum added 0.5%.
