In a bit of surprising coin news, last year’s 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set has sold out according to the United States Mint.
The set is now found in the "No Longer Available" section of the Mint’s website along with other sold out products.
The surprising aspect of the sellout it that the first two sets from 2010 and 2011 remain available. Having been on sale for so long, their sales totals are higher, though weekly sales have been stronger for the 2012 set.
Obviously, the U.S. Mint decided to make fewer of last year’s sets. Based on the most recent sales figures, it looks like the production total was capped at 25,000.
Coin News Extra Update: The final sales figure offered by the U.S. Mint for the 2012 set was 24,869.
The following table offers a breakdown of sales for all of the sets as of May 20, 2013.

Last year’s circulating coin set was released on November 8, 2012. It includes 10 quarters of the five 2012 quarter designs depicting El Yunque National Forest of Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historical Park of New Mexico, Acadia National Park of Maine, Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park of Hawaii and Denali National Park of Alaska.
Inside the set are five quarters from the United States Mint facility in Denver and five quarters from the United States Mint facility in Philadelphia. These are two facilities responsible for striking US coinage for circulation. The ten quarter-dollars are inside a simple, protective package that lets collectors easily get them out so they may be placed in coin books or albums.
Pricing for the last year’s set was lowered to $5.95 from the $9.95 price for each of the previous two sets.
This year’s 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set is not scheduled for a released until November 2013. Its price will be the same $5.95. The five 2013 quarter designs honor White Mountain National Forest Site in New Hampshire, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Site in Ohio, 2013 Great Basin National Park in Nevada, Fort McHenry Site in Maryland and Mount Rushmore National Memorial Site in South Dakota.
