The second of four individual 2012-W Proof American Gold Eagles has sold out. The one-quarter ounce size denominated in $10 is no longer available, joining the larger quarter-ounce size denominated in $25 that sold out in November.
On April 19, 2012, the United States Mint released five products featuring the proof Gold Eagles. Four of them simply feature the individually sized coins. The fifth is a set containing each of them. So while the individual $10- and $25-sized gold coins sold out, they remain available through the four-coin set but at a much higher price.
The 2012-W $10 Proof Gold Eagle Coin had reported sales of 4,969 as of January 7, 2013. The four-coin set has sales of 5,527.
Offered in the following grid are initially published product limits, mintage limits and also the current sales for all of the proof American Gold Eagle coin products. It appears all of the coins will have final sales much lower than the first-announced mintages. This is normal, at least in recent years, since the coins are produced to meet collector demand with the stated limits the absolute maximums — not how many coins are actually minted.
