Information is solidified for the 2013 Happy Birthday Coin Set and 2013 Congratulations Set, two newly introduced products that the United States Mint will issue this year. These sets build on a product line that started in 2012 when the annual Birth Set for newborns debuted.
Previously, only sketchy information was known about these sets since the U.S. Mint had only referenced them by name and price in its preliminary product schedule for 2013. The bureau has now published product pages for each of them since their releases are right around the corner, both on April 30, 2013.
2013 Happy Birthday Coin Set
Priced at $19.95, the 2013 Happy Birthday Coin Set offers five coins encapsulated within an attractive birthday-themed folder showing gift boxes and balloons.
"Happy Birthday! This is the first year this special occasion set is being offered by the United States Mint, and it is ideal for any birthday celebration," the Mint’s website promotes.
Each of the coins is in proof quality which offers sharp relief and a mirror-like background. The proof coins are struck at the U.S. Mint in San Francisco and include:
- 2013-S Kennedy Half-Dollar
- 2013-S 2013 Mount Rushmore National Memorial Site Quarter (South Dakota)
- 2013-S Roosevelt Dime
- 2013-S Jefferson Nickel
- 2013-S Lincoln Cent
Obverses of the coins are seen in the right inside jacket of the folder while reverses are seen from the back. The inside left jacket offers an area to write birthday wishes. Also on the back is a U.S. Mint Certificate of Authenticity. A sleeve wraps up the folder and it has the specifications of the coins along with the official seal of the Department of the Treasury.
2013 Congratulations Set
Prices at $64.95, the 2013 Congratulations Set includes the most popular annual coin from the U.S. Mint, a proof American Silver Eagle. This is a West Point produced Silver Eagle, bearing the designating ‘W’ mint mark.
"This is the first year this special occasion set is being offered by the United States Mint, and it will suit many different occasions, such as weddings, anniversaries, retirements, graduations and milestone birthdays," the Mint’s website states.
Folder, sleeve, design and layout of the 2013 Congratulations Set is very similar to that of the 2013 Happy Birthday Coin Set. The folder, of course, has a celebratory theme with silver and gold ribbons. The 2013-W Proof American Silver Eagle is encapsulated inside and there is an area to write a personal congratulation message off to the left.
