Many collectors are fond of the American Presidency $1 Coin Cover Series which features two circulating Presidential dollars from the first day of their production — one from the United States Mint facility in Denver and the other from the United States Mint facility in Philadelphia.
Introduced in 2007 along with the release of the first Presidential $1 Coin honoring George Washington, the series is one of the Mint’s more attractive products as the two dollars are mounted on a display card with a portrait of the current President being honored. These cards also feature a postage stamp with a postmark of when the coins were first released into circulation, or in the case of the 2012-dated issues and beyond, the day the coin cover is intended to be issued by the United States Mint.
A unique aspect of the American Presidency $1 Coin Cover Series is its long sales period for each release. As of this writing, collectors may still purchase covers released in 2009. Most United States Mint products go off sale within a year.
Most recently issued was the $1 coin cover celebrating Chester Arthur, the 21st President of the United States. It launched on April 5, 2012 for a price of $19.95. Debut one-week sales reported by the Mint totaled 13,562. It was the second best numismatic seller, right behind the extremely, world-wide popular 2012 Proof Silver Eagles which logged sales of 299,539 during a five-day time period. Sales of Arthur Coin Covers were slightly lower than past issues, but still solid. How all the covers have performed or are performing may be found in the following grid:
