Presidential Set, Hot Springs, Gettysburg and Glacier Coins

The final week of April will be a busy one for the United States Mint and its series of America the Beautiful 5 oz Silver Coins.

The Mint will release three ATB coins and one uncirculated set between Monday and Thursday. The product types are split with two releases intended for investors and two intended for coin collectors. The two investor-related products kick-off the week with their launch on Monday, April 25. They include the first two 2011 America the Beautiful 5 oz Silver Bullions Coins. Namely, the:

  • 2011 Gettysburg National Military Park 5 Oz Silver Bullion Coin
  • 2011 Glacier National Park 5 Oz Silver Bullion Coin

The two silver coins respectively honor the national parks located in the states of Pennsylvania and Montana. These ATB silver coins are the sixth and seventh in the series. The Mint launched all five of the 2010-dated issues on December 10. Later 2011 silver coins will celebrate Olympic National National Park (Washington), Vicksburg National Military Park (Mississippi), and Chickasaw National Recreation Area (Oklahoma).

As a bullion offering, and like all other Mint bullion products (bullion American Silver Eagles, bullion American Gold Eagles, etc.), these coins will not be sold directly by the United States Mint. They instead will be made available to the Mint’s network of Authorized Purchasers who will then resell them for modest premiums over their silver value.

The United States Mint will release the 2011 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set™ on Wednesday, April 27, for a price of $19.95. The collector product includes uncirculated versions of each of the four 2011 Presidential dollars honoring Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes and James Garfield. Since both the Philadelphia and Denver Mint’s produce the coins, a total of eight are packaged within the uncirculated set.

The United States Mint describes 2011 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set as:

"Presented in a folder with brief biographical sketches and portraits of each President. Each coin is mounted in an individual protective, rotatable blister; edge-incused inscriptions on the coins are fully visible. An image of the President appears on each obverse of the coins and the common reverse features a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. These coins also feature edge-incused inscriptions of the year, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the mint mark. The size, weight and metal composition of the Presidential $1 Coins are identical to that of the Native American $1 Coin."

On Thursday, April 28, the United States will release the final numismatic product for the month, the Hot Springs National Park 5 Oz Silver Uncirculated Coin. While the Mint produced all 27,000 of each of the five 2010-dated designs last year, they did not issue them. As such, this is a 2010-dated issue, and the first collector issue in the five ounce series. Later 2010 coins will honor Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming), Yosemite National Park (California), Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona), and Mount Hood National Forest (Oregon).

The United States Mint will directly sell the coin beginning at noon Eastern Time for a price of $279.95. There is a chance that the price could go higher, since silver has reached over $46 an once as compared to the $40 an ounce level when the Mint first published the expected pricing. There is a limit of one order per household for the 5 oz coin.

All the ATB 5 Oz Silver Coins are composed of .999 fine silver and have a diameter of three inches. The collector version has a brilliant finish and features the "P" Philadelphia mint mark. There is no mint mark on the two bullion versions mentioned above.

When available, the collector products may be purchased directly from the Mint website (http://www.usmint.gov/) or via its telephone number 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
