The United States Mint has placed a hold on two of its silver products, the 14-coin 2010 Silver Proof Set and the five coin 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set.
Each of the sets, which contain coins minted from 90% silver, have presumably been suspended because their intrinsic melt values have risen sharply since mid-March when the two sets were last suspended to undergo price increases. Silver rallied over the $40 an ounce psychological level on Friday, which is a new price high not seen since it went over $50 an ounce back in 1980.
