Today, February 7, 2012, the United States Mint released its El Yunque National Forest Quarters Three Coin Set, the first of the year and the 11th overall since the America the Beautiful Quarters program kicked-off in 2010.
The latest coin set is more attractive than the previous ten, and $5 cheaper at $9.95. The price and improved appeal should support better sales in an already fairly popular US Mint product line.
Available directly at the US Mint online site, http://catalog.usmint.gov/, the coin set includes the three collector versions of the El Yunque National Forest Quarter — a San Francisco proof, a Philadelphia uncirculated and a Denver uncirculated. These three coins are enclosed within a display card that has a background of El Yunque National Forest which is located in Puerto Rico. A Certificate of Authenticity is located on the card’s back.
Demand generally controls mintage levels, and the sets have no per household order limits. Sales of past America the Beautiful Quarters Three Coin Sets have started around the 10,000-12,000 during the first few days. The very first Hot Springs coin set, which is still available from the US Mint for $14.95, has reached the 20,000 level since its November 2010 release.
Four more sets will be released this year. Those will feature three collector versions of the Chaco Culture National Historical Park Quarter for New Mexico, the Acadia National Park Quarter for Maine, Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park Quarter for Hawaii and Denali National Park Quarter for Alaska.
