The 2012 Presidential $1 Coins mark the sixth year in a series of strikes dedicated to the former Presidents of the United States of America. Coins released during the year honor Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison and a second strike marking the second administration of Grover Cleveland.
Authorized by the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-145), the dollars honor the former chief executives of the country by showcasing a portrait of the individual on their obverse. The series debuted in 2007 and features four coins annually with releases dictated by the order in which the individuals served in office. Thus, the first strike to appear in the series was the 2007 George Washington Presidential $1 Coin.
The reverse of each dollar contains the same image of the Statue of Liberty, as dictated by the authorizing legislation. That design was originally completed by Don Everhart.
