ANA World’s Fair of Money® Coin and Event Highlights

The American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® convention is packed with exciting collector opportunities and coin exhibits.

Beginning Wednesday, July 30 and ending Sunday, August 3., this year’s convention in Baltimore, Maryland is sure to be one of the best.

Listing all the exceptional events occurring at the show is fruitless… There are simply too many. But here is a selection of several that highlight some of the fun and exciting experiences to enjoy:

American Numismatic Association

• ANA World’s Fair of Money Tours and Events Explore Baltimore
  Attendees of the American Numismatic Association’s 2008 World’s Fair of Money, July 30 to Aug. 3, are encouraged to take advantage of special tours and events scheduled in conjunction with the show. These activities showcase Baltimore’s rich history and highlight one of the country’s most beautiful harbors.

• Exhibits, Special Events and Educational Programs Highlight Baltimore World’s Fair of Money
  The American Numismatic Association’s 2008 World’s Fair of Money® will give visitors a chance to see millions of dollars in rare coins, learn from the world’s top numismatists, and explore the history of Baltimore.

• ANA Awards Medals of Merit to Gordon Donnell, Jim Majoros and William Rau
  Gordon R. Donnell, Jim Majoros and William G. Rau will receive American Numismatic Association Medal of Merit awards at the World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore, July 30-August 3.

• Jim Licaretz Receives 2008 ANA Numismatic Art Award for Excellence
  Philadelphia artist Jim Licaretz is the 2008 recipient of the American Numismatic Association’s Numismatic Art Award for Excellence in Medallic Sculpture. He will accept the honor on Aug. 2 at the ANA World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore.

• Sam Deep to Receive Exemplary Service Award
  Pennsylvania collector Sam Deep will receive the American Numismatic Association’s Exemplary Service Award Aug. 2 at the Baltimore World’s Fair of Money®.

• Leon Hendrickson Named Numismatist of the Year
  Leon Hendrickson is the recipient of the American Numismatic Association’s 2008 Numismatist of the Year for his many contributions to the hobby. He will be presented the award during the ANA Membership Reception at 4 p.m. Aug. 1 during the World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore.

• Gene Hessler to Receive the Farran Zerbe Award
  Gene Hessler is the 2008 recipient of the American Numismatic Association’s highest honor, the Farran Zerbe Memorial Award for Distinguished Service. He will be presented the accolade Aug. 2 during the Awards Banquet at the World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore.

• ANA Announces World’s Fair of Money Classes, Seminars and Workshops
  The American Numismatic Association is offering a range of Technical Series Classes, Collector Series Classes, a Professional Development Seminar and Free Convention Workshops during the Baltimore World’s Fair of Money®.

Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC)

CCAC to Review American Eagle Platinum Designs at ANA World’s Fair of Money®
The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) will next meet at the upcoming American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money convention in Baltimore. In addition to reviewing reverse designs for the 2009 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin, the CCAC has invited the public to share their views, opinions and suggestions in an open forum.

Well-known numismatic firm, Kagin’s, Inc. (www.Kagins.com) of Tiburon, California, founded in 1933 by Arthur M. “Art” Kagin, will celebrate the company’s 75th anniversary during the upcoming American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money convention in Baltimore.

• Collectors Invited to Baltimore PNG Day, July 29, 2008
  This year’s annual PNG Day conducted by the Professional Numismatists Guild in conjunction with the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® convention will be Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Hall A of the Baltimore Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Collectors are cordially invited to attend; however, an invitation is required for admission.

• Summer 2008 PNG Share the Knowledge Seminars
  The Professional Numismatists Guild will continue its year-long series of PNG Share the Knowledge educational seminars at major numismatic conventions in June and August. Programs will be conducted by PNG member-dealers at the Whitman Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention, June 6; the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore, August 1 and 2; and at the Whitman Coin and Collectibles Atlanta Expo, August 22, 2008.

PCGS Presents Stewart Blay’s Legendary “Red Copper Collection” at ANA
The "Red Copper Collection" of mint state and proof half cents and cents will be publicly displayed for the first time by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) at the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® convention in Baltimore, July 30 – August 2, 2008.

• Platinum Night Rarities Shine in Heritage’s July 2008 Baltimore ANA Signature Auction
  Significant and classic rarities from all series in American numismatics are available in Heritage’s Platinum Night catalog for the Official Auction of the Baltimore 2008 ANA World’s Fair of Money®. The auction will be held in Baltimore July 30 – Aug. 3, with Platinum Night on July 31, 2008.

• Break Bread with Halperin, Raise Dough for ANA
  An unprecedented "lot" will be offered in conjunction with the official auction of the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® convention in Baltimore: lunch with Heritage Auction Galleries Co-Chairman, best-selling author and acclaimed numismatic authority, Jim Halperin.

• Previously Unaccounted 1943-S Bronze Cent Acquired by Rare Coin Wholesalers
  A previously unrecorded 1943-S Lincoln cent, erroneously struck on a bronze planchet and found in circulation by a teenaged collector over a half century ago, has been acquired by Rare Coin Wholesalers of Dana Point, California.

• Contursi Bringing Specimen 1854 Kellogg $20 “Home” to Baltimore
  The finest known U.S. territorial gold coin, the 1854 Kellogg & Co. $20, graded PCGS SP-69, will return to Baltimore for a public exhibit for the first time since it was sold by The John Hopkins University as part of the legendary Garrett Collection more than a quarter century ago.

United States Mint

• U.S. Mint to Unveil 2009 Saint-Gaudens Gold Coin at ANA Convention in Baltimore
  Collectors will first see the 2009 Ultra-High-Relief Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coin July 30 at ANA’s World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore. The United States Mint announced today that Mint Director Ed Moy will reveal the coin, which is a modern version of the 1907 Augustus Saint-Gaudens $20 Double Eagle — often described as the most beautiful gold piece ever made.

• US Mint to Display Gold Bars and Unveil 2009 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin
  The United States Mint peaked curiosity further for the ANA World’s Fair of Money® convention by announcing their unveiling of the 2009 Saint-Gaudens double eagle designed gold coin and adding a display of six real gold bars that were refined at West Point.

• United States Mint Director Ed Moy to Host Public Forum
  The United States Mint has announced that Director Moy will host a public forum at the Baltimore 2008 ANA World’s Fair of Money® on Friday, August 1.

In addition, there will be nearly 20 world mints and several hundred coin dealers at the convention.
