The proof one ounce is the first coin in the American Eagle gold series to disappear under the pressure of collector demand.
The 2008-dated American Eagle Gold Proof with the "W" mint mark broke a relatively quiet week and sold out, joining the ranks of the Buffalo gold and Eagle platinum coins in the U.S. Mint’s online store as "product is not available."
Sales of the proof collector coin were up by 568 units, or 3.6 percent, compared to the previous week. More finalized figures will likely settle in next week, but the latest numbers indicate 16,327 were sold this year.
The remaining proof sizes and 4-coin set are still available. All the uncirculated Eagle gold series coins are listed as well, and showing exceptionally strong demand from last week. Sales of the one ounce up 14.4 percent, the 1/2 ounce up 7.1 percent, the 1/4 ounce increasing an impressive 17.8 percent, the 1/10 up 2.2 percent and the 4-coin set rising 10.4 percent.
