Collector action was mostly lackadaisical when it came to purchasing coins last week, the latest US Mint sales figures reveal. Despite that, a few milestones were achieved as we so often like to point out in our weekly heading.
2009 Proof Sets again retreated from their launch week highs, which is naturally normal. They did reel in a new total of 577,425 sold. At $29.95 for each set, the Mint has grossed more than $17.2 million in 21 days.
2009 Lincoln Rail Splitter pennies also pulled away from their peaks and are now caught in the valleys. But the bicentennial coins continue to amass dizzying numbers. In just over a month’s time, collectors have purchased 267,530 of the two-roll sets. For the curious minded, that’s more than 26.7 million pennies. With collector’s spending 8.95 cents for every one, that’s nearly $2.4 million for the Mint.
Numbers for the uncirculated Braille Silver Dollars in the easy-open capsule actually picked up from the prior week while standalone dollars declined in the week-over-week comparison. Collectors prefer the proof option by nearly two to one with 111,311 ordered. The two uncirculated options tally to 60,036. Together the commemorative coins have reached 171,347 of the allotted 400,000.
Albeit lower, 100-coin bags of Guam quarters are still reaching weekly increases of 21-24 percentage. In news worth knowing, the US Mint placed the 1000-coin bags back on sale after they were listed as unavailable for nearly a month. Expect their numbers to shoot up in next week’s report.
UHR’s $20 Double Eagles were feeling the collector’s love. New unit sales picked up by 900 compared to the prior 650. Helping was the Mint’s $50 price reduction on Wednesday, June 17.
First Spouse Gold Coin sales were again mostly on the low side. For more, check out Louisa Adams’ Final Week. Also less than exciting were most Mint silver product numbers last week. Read US Mint Silver Coin Sales Mixed.
American Eagle bullion coins eased as well, but June is looking strong. As of Monday and for the month, 93,000 of the gold and 1,770,000 of the silver eagles were sold by the US Mint to its’ authorized purchasers.
Here are the individual breakouts for each coin discussed above:
