The numismatic landscape for US Mint 2009-dated coins has remained on the sleepy side of sales since mid-December. The attention-grabbing action surrounds the new 2010 products.
2010-dated Gold and Silver Eagles made waves in January. The eagles swaggered last month toting prolific numbers. But then sales appeared to dive into nothingness as not a single sale was added to Mint registers for nearly a week.
The silence was shattered on Wednesday afternoon. Silver Eagles jumped up 500,000. Gold Eagles picked up 14,500. The additions are hardly spectacular, but they are decent … and far from ugly zeros.
In other figures for newly released coins:
- Bags and rolls of 2010 Kennedy Half Dollars now appear in the sales columns. Released on the 29th, collectors ordered 7,559 of the two-roll sets and 1,237 of the 200-coin bags.
- 2010 Native American Dollars shot out of the gate with solid 3-day numbers. An easing has since occurred, with weekly gains halved from those initial sales. Another 4,005 of the 2010-P rolls and 4,059 of the 2010-D rolls were added to the totals, which are now 12,338 and 12,505, respectively.
Shifting back to older coins… Proof 2009 Buffalo Gold pieces climbed 612 over the prior 412 to reach to 45,501.
In glancing at the Mint’s other 24-karat gold offerings, it is best to look quickly away. Margaret Taylor First Spouse Gold Coins slid south… way south. The proof was adjusted down by 59 and the uncirculated fell by 235. With these negatives in play, First Lady coins as a group actually tumbled 188 — that, after each coin was reduced $25 in price just over a week ago.
