Aside from the Pierce coin cover launched last Thursday, the newest America the Beautiful Quarters™ Products were the biggest unit gainers in the latest round of United States Mint coin sales figures. But numismatic issues were very lethargic over all. Bullion American Silver Eagles, however, were popping like fireworks on the fourth of July.
Of the released 2010 quarters products, the proof set earned the title for most wanted, posting weekly sales of 5,103 and bringing their total to 156,212 since issued on May 13. The silver set, which launched on May 27, was a step behind with an increase of 3,585. It scored a total of 126,912, or 44.5 percent of the 2009 silver quarters set level which is still on sale. That set advanced 593 to 284,884.
Those were not exactly jaw-dropping numbers. But that will change soon. There will be excitement later this month with Mint scheduled releases to augment the sales tables, including the 2010 Mint Set (July 15), the 2010 Proof Set (July 22) and rolls and bags of the Yosemite National Park Quarters (July 26). The America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins are expected to begin rolling out at some point this summer as well.
Franklin Pierce Presidential $1 Coin Covers opened at 16,688 between their issue on Thursday, July 1, to Sunday, July 4. While the series has been reflecting a trend of lower sales, the debuting figures are within the range of prior releases during the last 12 months.
-
Millard Fillmore $1 covers opened at 17,833 between their launch on Friday, April 2 through to Sunday, April 4
-
Zachary Taylor $1 covers debuted at 18,705 from their release on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, to Sunday, January 10, 2010*
-
James K. Polk $1 covers opened at 20,863 between their issue on Thursday, October 1, 2009, through to Sunday, October 11, 2009*
-
John Tyler $1 covers debuted at 20,422 from their release on Thursday, July 2, 2009, through to Sunday, July 12, 2009*
*Note the extra days before the first sales figures were available.
Never failing to impress this year are bullion American Silver Eagles. The prior report had the silver coins at 18.1 million in year to date sales. They have since jumped another 875,500 and toppled 19 million.
Last year’s record of 28,766,500 is still nearly 10 million away, but six more months are left in the year to attain that goal. If numbers hold relatively stable, it should be easy to surpass with only an average of 1.7 million per remaining month needed. For a recap of June eagle sales, read the CoinNews article June 2010 US Mint Silver Eagle Sales.
Finally, 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars slowed after strong gains during the prior week of 5,243 — more than double the amount seen recently. New proof and uncirculated sales advanced 910 and 281, respectively, for a combined 1,191. The slowdown is not too surprising. High peaks are often followed by deep valleys. The silver dollars are one coin shy of 216,000, or 61.7 percent of their authorized 350,000 mintage.
The following sales tables provide a breakout of recent U.S. Mint coin sales figures.
