United States Mint weekly bullion coin sales slowed as gold and silver prices fell.
And numismatic products dropped in pace without the allure of newly released annual sets pulling collectors into the store — as happened in the prior two weeks when the uncirculated 2010 Mint Set and then the 2010 Proof Set launched.
The two sets remain sales leaders, although weekly increases are falling quickly. The 2010 Mint Uncirculated Set went from its 247,085 debut to 46,321 and then 22,778. The 2010 Proof Set opened at 296,379, with the next seven days adding 54,637.
Proof 2010 Disabled American Veterans Silver Dollars experienced a nice 986 weekly pop over the prior 672. The uncirculated option dropped very slightly to 261 from 269. The commemoratives have reached a combined 291,705, or 62.8 percent of their maximum mintage.
2010 Boy Scouts Silver Dollars have not budged, having sold out weeks ago with splits of 245,000 for the proof and 105,000 for the uncirculated. In a new development, the Mint has shipped orders that were placed on BSA coin waiting lists. Further, the standby list is no longer even an option for collectors. The Mint on Wednesday changed the proof silver dollar status to "sold out." The uncirculated dollar was taken off sale many weeks ago.
Added to this week’s tables are the debuting figures for Yosemite quarter bags and rolls. Opening sales were mostly on par with the prior two America the Beautiful Quarter releases.
While gold has recovered some of its charge, the recent dip in prices has impacted US Mint bullion coin demand. Since last Wednesday — and before, the fractional American Gold Eagles have been frozen. The 1 oz Gold Eagles increased by just 9,000. Bullion American Buffalo gold coins edged 3,000 higher. American Silver Eagles performed better, rising 604,500. In a milestone, year-to-date sales have topped 21 million.
The following sales tables provide a breakout of the most recent U.S. Mint coin sales figures.
