Record gold and 30-year high silver prices boosted demand across almost all United States Mint coin products, breaking a two-week streak of mostly falling sales.
US Mint one-ounce bullion coins were the recipients of the most buying action. American Silver Eagles rallied to a weekly level that has been more typical of the coins this year, jumping 655,000 versus 245,000 in the prior week and 205,000 during the week before that. The one-ounce American Gold Eagles moved a tad slower, rising 20,500 versus 21,500. But their September total of 53,500 has already passed the 39,000 sold in all of August.
US Mint collector products surged with all but eight showing week-over-week gains — many significant. Silver products rose to the top.
The 2010 Silver Proof Sets issued August 26 more than doubled their prior increase, advancing 19,828 to 317,320. The other silver sets improved as well, although more modestly. The 18-coin clad 2010 Proof Set topped last week’s reported increase by more than 4,000, and is quickly reaching toward 600,000.
American Veterans Disable for Life Silver Dollars improved nicely, picking up another 2,650. Their total is just short of 230,000.
One of the few Mint products to slow was the 2010 Mint Set, rising 13,656 versus 13,819. They should topple the 400,000 milestone this week.
First Spouse Gold Coins added 1,593 as a group compared to 1,479. Buchanan’s Liberty gold totals advanced 1,169 to 8,568. They surpassed all of the other currently available first lady coins in just over two weeks on sale.
