The latest U.S. Mint sales figures show greater demand for bullion gold coins, clad sets and silver sets. On the other hand, bullion silver coins cooled slightly, as did interest in proof gold.
The 2009 DC & US Silver Quarters Proof Set has been a topic of interest in the last two Mint reports. 30-year high silver prices lifted the set’s melt value to an all-time high of over $26, making the Mint’s $29.95 price point a bargain. While other collector coins were sluggish this month, the sets were among the few to shine. They can not any longer. They sold out Tuesday, October 26. They were available for well over a year, having went on sale March 23, 2009. Their latest sales may stand at 298,562.
One-ounce bullion Gold Eagle coins picked up their pace, climbing 21,500 in the last seven days versus their previous gain of 16,000. Further highlighting demand is their current October tally of 86,500 which is already higher than totals from each of the last two months. Also performing better was the fractional quarter-ounce size, advancing for the first time this month with an increase of 2,000.
Numismatic gold coin premiums may be too high to handle, or collectors are waiting and speculating on price drops down the road. 24-karat First Spouse Gold Coins only added 54 as a group compared to their prior pick up of 539. Proof Buffalo Gold coins advanced 485 versus 944. Weekly levels were more than halved for all the 22-karat 2010 Proof Gold Eagles.
Finally, bullion Silver Eagles sales slowed a touch, rising 600,000 against 650,000. October sales have been frozen at 2.6 million since Monday, which is also already higher than monthly totals from September and August. In a milestone, they have topped the 28 million annual level, and could break the all-time annual record of 28,766,500 this week. The collector 2010 Proof Silver Eagles go on sale November 19.
