The latest United States Mint sales figures provide several interesting revelations. Despite suspensions of gold coins and resulting higher prices, several marked improved gains. Other coins also rallied. 68 numismatic products outperformed their previous weekly gains during the third week of August. That compares to 48 in the second week and 26 in the first week.
In additional highlights, orders for the Grand Canyon National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin are apparently maxed and the debuting sales results for rolls of Rutherford B. Hayes dollars are available.
United States Mint commemorative gold coins remain unavailable after having been suspended on August 12. Their latest sales totals were expectedly trimmed, but only modestly.
Gold soared 6.3 percent last week. Its gain impacted other products in the form of suspensions and higher prices. All of the Mint’s numismatic gold coins were unavailable for about 24 hours, and then their prices were raised to the highest in history. Still, all but one proof American Gold Eagle posted better weekly sales. And most of the remaining gold coins scored better tallies than during July before the major run-up in gold prices began. The following table highlights:

Grand Canyon 5 Ounce Orders Maxed
Household order limits were removed for the Grand Canyon National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin on August 9. Sales jumped the following week by 2,045, leaving 738 left. Those and more, are now gone. The United States Mint has indicated 27,154 have been ordered, or 154 more than their maximum 27,000 mintage. The Mint is still offering them online as of this writing, which is likely to end soon. With cancellations added into the mix, the Grand Canyon sales level should return to 27,000.
The other five ounce issue available, the 2010 Mount Hood National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin, increased 640. That lifts its total to 19,342.
Rutherford B. Hayes $1 Debut
Rutherford B. Hayes $1 coin rolls went on sale Thursday, August 18. Buyers ordered 19,574 of the Philadelphia rolls and 19,170 of the Denver rolls, bringing the total to 38,981. The pace is a touch slower than the previous Ulysses S. Grant $1 coin rolls which debuted with a total of 40,199. The Rutherford B. Hayes $1 coins did make the Mint’s top numismatic seller list.
