Fewer dollars were spent on numismatic products last week, United States Mint sales figures reveal. While the previous sales report boasted 80 numismatic products that had outperformed their previous weekly gains, just 11 managed the feat in the latest report. 4 actually had their totals trimmed.
One of the silver coins with its sales total cut was the Grand Canyon National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. It dropped 52 to 27,831. Having been released June 29 and selling out August 31 with a total over its announced 27,000 mintage, further reductions are expected.
The only other collectible five ounce coin the Mint is selling, the Mount Hood National Forest Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin, advanced 1,194 to 21,288. The pick-up was stronger than recent weekly gains, helped by the removal of its household order limit.
Sales of collector gold coins were handicapped due to their suspensions and price increases. It would appear an accounting correction was placed on the one-ounce 2011 Proof American Gold Eagle since it rose by a very modest 7 to 29,924. The fractional sizes marked surprising weekly improvements with the one-half ounce up 47 versus 42, the one-quarter ounce up 302 against 263 and the one-tenth ounce up 489 versus 392.
Silver numismatic products led Mint sales, taking four of the top five leader slots. Following two straight weeks at number #2 and after having dominated the top spot since its release on June 30, the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle coin returned to its #1 ranking.
Top five selling United States Mint numismatic products:
- 2011 Proof American Silver Eagle coins (+5,081 to 740,946)
- 2011 Proof Set (+4,063 to 822,495)
- 9/11 Silver Medal – West Point (+2,348 to 101,259)
- 2011 Silver Proof Set (+1,869 to 455,312)
- 9/11 Silver Medal – Philadelphia (+1,713 to 60,269)
