Sharp gains in bullion Silver Eagles and three product debuts are highlights in the latest report on the United States Mint weekly sales figures.
Sales debuting products include the Olympic Quarter Three-Coin Set, the Hayes Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set, and the Gettysburg National Military Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.
Olympic Quarter Three-Coin Set Sales Debut
Olympic Quarter Three-Coin Sets were released on Tuesday, September 20. Collectors grabbed 10,891 during its debut period, which is mostly comparable to how the first seven sets performed in their start. Past openings include Hot Springs at 10,684; Yellowstone at 11,115; Yosemite at 11,441; Grand Canyon at 12,418; Mount Hood at 11,282; Gettysburg at 12,500; and Glacier at 10,620.
Hayes Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set Sales Debut
Hayes Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Sets were released on Thursday, September 22. United States Mint sales reached 1,448. That is mostly on par with the previous Grant medal set which opened at 1,569 with two extra days of sales in its debut period. Based on current data available, it appears the 2011-dated Presidential and First Spouse Medal Sets could struggle to reach 7,000 like the still-for-sale 2010 sets have.
Gettysburg National Military Park 5 Oz Silver Uncirculated Coin Sales Debut
Also launching Thursday was the 2011-P Gettysburg National Military Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin. Its debut sales were 9,549, the slowest for this sixth release in the series. The coin, which contains five ounces of .999 fine silver, was not helped when silver suffered its worst four-day rout since 1983. As of this writing, the Gettysburg and other collector silver coins and sets remain unavailable since their suspensions on Monday.
Performances of Silver Eagles – Bullion, Uncirculated and Proof
It had appeared that bullion Silver Eagles would register a rather bland sales total for September. Then silver plummeted below $30 an ounce, and buyers could purchase them at comparative bargain prices. They did. Since one week ago, bullion Silver Eagles surged by more than 2 million. They have a current monthly total of more than 3.4 million. That already makes September the 8th best month of all-time for the Silver Eagles which date back to 1986.
Uncirculated Silver Eagles debuted in last week’s sales report with a five-day total of 184,967. Collectors purchased another 9,033 since, lifting their total to an even 194,000.
Proof Silver Eagles, which have often been at the very top of the Mint sales board since their release on June 30, rose 5,959 and now stand with a total of 752,681.
Collector uncirculated and proof Silver Eagles made it on the Mint’s best-selling list. However, like the Gettysburg coin, their sales have been suspended. If that status does not change soon, their totals next week will experience little change.
Debut products and Silver Eagles held four of the top five numismatic selling spots for the Mint.
- Olympic Quarter Three-Coin Set (+10,891)
- Gettysburg Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin (+9,549)
- 2011-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagles (+9,033 to 194,000)
- 2011 Proof Set (+6,929 to 836,642)
- 2011-W Proof American Silver Eagles (+5,950 to 752,681)
