The two finest collections of circulation strike Walking Liberty half dollars in the PCGS Set RegistrySM and the only known complete set of 1910 matte proof U.S. gold coins will be displayed at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo (www.LongBeachExpo.com), September 6 – 8, 2012.
The show will be open to the public in the Long Beach, California Convention Center, 100 S. Pine Ave.
"PCGS received many compliments when these two sets were publicly displayed for the first time at the recent ANA World’s Fair of Money in Philadelphia, and both owners have graciously agreed to let us exhibit them at that upcoming Long Beach Expo," said Expo President Cassi East.
The "Walker Showdown" in the special Collectibles Display area (booth #828) showcases the top two registry sets in the category Walking Liberty Half Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1916 – 1947).
The Gerald Forsythe Collection is ranked as both the Current Finest and All-Time Finest, and a newcomer to the Walkers registry category, the High Desert Collection, is the second Current Finest.
"The 66-coin Forsythe set has a grade point average of 66.52 out of a current finest possible 66.726, and the number two-ranked High Desert set has a 65.95 grade point average. Both certified collections are in PCGS Secure Plus™ holders," said BJ Searls, Collectors Universe Set Registry Manager.
Another featured numismatic display of rare, early 20th century gold and valued at $6 million includes the only known complete set of 1910 matte proof U.S. gold coins. Exhibited by Monaco Rare Coins (booth #512), the NGC-graded set consists of $2.50 graded PF66, $5 PF67, $10 PF66 and $20 PF66.
The Monaco display also features one of only two known 1907 Ultra High Relief, Sans Serif Edge Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles, graded PCGS Secure Plus PR58, and one of only two known 1907 Rolled Edge Eagles, graded PCGS PR67.
A major non-numismatic attraction will be the first West Coast public display by Heritage Auctions (www.HA.com) of some of the headline-generating 1910-era baseball cards recently discovered in an Ohio attic. Ten of the cards — including examples of Ty Cobb, Cy Young and Honus "Hans" Wagner — will be exhibited from the treasure trove that’s valued at $3 million or more.
Heritage will conduct a public auction of U.S. and world rare coins and bank notes in conjunction with the show.
Another special exhibit in the Collectors Display area will showcase, courtesy of George H. LaBarre Galleries, financial documents signed by well-known historical figures. These include an 1860’s American Express stock certificate signed by Henry Wells and William Fargo; an 1880’s Standard Oil stock certificate signed by John D. Rockefeller; and a $100,000 bond issued in 1901 to Andrew Carnegie for the sale of Carnegie Steel.
The Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo will be open to the public Thursday and Friday, September 6 and 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Public admission is $8 (good for all three days); $6 for members of any coin or stamp club; $4 for seniors 65 and older and for children ages 8 to 16. Free admission is available for PCGS and PSA Collectors Club members, PCGS, PSA and PSE Set RegistrySM participants, PCGS CoinFacts members, PSA and PCGS Authorized Dealers and children ages 7 and younger.
