Rising gold and silver prices continue to add a bit more excitement for several United States Mint coin products — numismatic and bullion.
Demand shot higher for investment-grade bullion American Eagles. And there were a few small sparks for collector gold coins, despite recent price increases. But it was the Mint’s silver coins that pulled in most buyers.
Numismatic Product Highlights
2012-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagles came back from last week’s reported 8,791 declination with an addition of 3,909 for a total of 140,073.
Demand remains strong for America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. Sales were a bit weaker for the latest two additions depicting Chaco Culture and Acadia, but group sales were again better with 2,818 ordered compared to the previous 2,485. With silver prices above $34 an ounce and the five ounce coins still priced at $204.95 each, they are more attractive at their smaller premiums.
The same may be said for 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagles. Collectors had to deal with a premium above $28 per coin when the Silver Eagle first launched, but now the mark-up has fallen toward $20. After hitting the 600,000 milestone in the previous U.S. Mint sales report, they attained the 700,000 milestone in this latest one. They Eagles were the top-selling numismatic product for the Mint.

Overall, 61 products outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to the 75 noted last week. 11 products registered unit sales of more than 1,000. The last sales report had 13.
Making American History Coin and Currency Set
For the first time since they were released on August 7, weekly sales of the Making American History Coin and Currency Set improved over the previous week.
From its beginning sales debut of 24,130, successive weekly increases have been 6,769; 2,979; 2,671; 1,105; and 1,778.
The set’s latest sales are at 39,432, which is 78.9% of the initial 50,000 production and 39.4% of the potential 100,000.
US Coin Sales: Bullion Coin Products
The last seven days of bullion coin sales have been more like the days of old when monthly records were hit.
All American Eagles improved, with every Gold Eagle size advancing — the 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz for the first time this month. 18,500 ounces of the 22-karat gold coins moved since the last sales report. With seven days of sales left in the month, 38,500 ounces have sold. That already surpasses the monthly totals in February, April, and July, and is just 500 ounces away from matching sales in August.
American Silver Eagles surged 922,000, which is the best seven-day increase since mid-June.
The latest weekly sales period covers through to Wednesday, September 19, 2012.

the u.s. mint should stop selling the 2012s currency and coin set after reaching 50,000. in this way, the mint can erase some anger from the collectors by producing more silver eagle.

Does anyone know when the U.S. Mint is going to stop selling the 2011 W Uncirculated Silver Eagle? The mint has sold 401,836, that’s including the 25th Ann 2011 W Uncirculated Silver Eagles.
