New 2013-dated products were obvious standouts in the latest U.S. Mint sales report, but final figures for six products no longer sold also added some spice.
Debuting five-day sales of the 2013-W Proof American Silver Eagle clocked in at 258,860 units and starting seven-days sales of the 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set reported in at 48,901 units. Two CoinNews.net articles published Wednesday cover and compare their debuts in detail. (Find them in this site’s section about U.S. Mint product sales.)
The new American Silver Eagle and quarters proof set hurdled to the top of the Mint’s best seller list.

Final Reported Sales for Six 2012-Dated Products
In other coin news, U.S. Mint sales updates officially ended for six products released last year. The products and their final reported sales include:
- 2012-S Acadia Quarter Rolls – 17,093
- 2012-S Hawai’i Volcanoes Quarter Rolls – 17,478
- 2012-P Hawai’i ATB Silver Uncirculated Coin – 14,863
- 2012 ATB Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set – 42,223
- 2012-W $50 American Eagle Gold Proof Coin – 14,848
- 2012-W $50 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin – 19,765
The 2012-W $50 American Gold Buffalo maintains its status as second scarcest in the one-ounce 24-karat gold series.
2012-W $50 Gold Eagles are still available through the Mint’s 2012-W American Gold Eagle Four-Coin Proof Set for $3,585.50. Its weekly sales have firmed since becoming the last remaining proof Gold Eagle product. It increased 1,100 in this round. The immediate prior advance at 1,563 was an all-time high. Before then, gains of fewer than 200 were typical.
2012 First Spouse Gold Coins remain the only other source of numismatic gold products from the U.S. Mint. Sales gains for seven of the gold coins fell compared to the previous week while the eighth one, the 2012 Frances Cleveland second term proof coin, actually had its sales total trimmed by 29.
Last year’s uncirculated Mint Set sold out Monday with last reported sales of 392,000. It will keep its 50-year lowest mintage status, though its final sales figure may get tweaked a bit in next week’s U.S. Mint sales report.

For more information or to buy any of the above products, visit the U.S. Mint website at http://catalog.usmint.gov/.
Why were sales of the Hawaii 5 oz. “P” mint-marked numismatic version stopped below 15,000 when the upper limit was 25,000, and the El Yunque 5 oz.’er is now above 16,000 in sales and is still available?
Toddhoss, based on similar situations in the past, demand earlier into a numismatic product’s release has strong influence as to its final production amount, irrespective to the U.S. Mint announced mintage. The reasoning is that the U.S. Mint does its absolute best not to produce product that it later has to destroy, recover or melt, but instead produces to meet demand.
