Newly released Girls Scouts Silver Dollars led United States Mint numismatic product sales last week.
Silver coins in general popped. Of note, 2013-W Proof Silver Eagles more than doubled their sales performance from the previous week by advancing 22,151. They topped 350,000 in the process and claimed the second best-selling spot for the Mint.

While not in the Mint’s top ten list, sales jumped for 2012 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. In notables:
- The Acadia silver coin sold out on February 20. Sales updates closed in this latest report and that puts the final unaudited total at 14,978.
- The Denali silver coin sold out on February 26. Last week’s sales report showed it gained 721. The latest stats have it up another 673 to 15,225.
- In the still for sale category, the El Yunque silver coin at 17,209 advanced 747 compared to the prior week’s gain of 134 and the Chaco Culture silver coin at 15,115 jumped 1,022 compared to the previous 191.
In a quick return to Girl Scouts Silver Dollars, a total of 41,624 sold during the first five days. The start is slower than beginning sales of past commemorative coins. (Read this coin news article for comparisons.) That is not too surprising since the vast majority of coin collectors are men and the silver dollars obviously appeal stronger to women.

Interesting that the 5 oz coins are selling out in reverse order. I suspect that they made more of the early one and they sold much slower than they thought and so they made fewer of the newer ones which caused sellouts at lower mintages. Will be interesting to see what the final mintages of the last 2 2012’s will be. Since the Hawaii sold out unexpectedly, a lot more are being sold now. Somewhat interesting. I am thinking Chaco might be a disappointment for people as mintages are higher than the last 3 that sold out and resellers rather… Read more »
