Weekly figures from the United States Mint reveal much higher interest in numismatic gold coins, a soaring pace for bullion silver coins, and offer first time sales for two new products.
Also in this report, there is an update on products that recently sold out.
Last Thursday, July 18, the U.S. Mint released the fifth proof American Platinum Eagle from its ‘Preamble Series’ and a day later launched the Girl Scouts of the USA Young Collectors Set. By Sunday, July 21, sales of the Platinum Eagle hit 2,139 and the Young Collectors Set reached 1,474.

Sales Improve for Numismatic Gold Coins, Slow for Numismatic Silver Coins
In last week’s report on numismatic products, week-over-week sales came in tepid for gold coins and heated for silver coins. This round there was a reversal of sorts.
Coins with gold cooled in the first half of July as premiums appeared heavier. Weekly averages for gold dropped enough to call for gold coin pricing cuts, but a directional component used by the Mint kept popping up just enough to stop them — by a penny in the first week of July and by $6.01 in the second week. Gold has firmed significantly since, bringing back greater appeal for gold coins. And with that, all but two of the Mint’s numismatic gold coins logged higher weekly sales in this latest round of stats. In comparing unit totals, the last sales report showed gold coins and sets advancing 871. The Mint’s latest sales report has them up by 1,768.
In silver coins and sets, sales swelled after July 11 when the U.S. Mint reduced prices across nine silver products. Last week’s sales report had every one of the nine scoring stronger numbers. That level could not be maintained through last week, however, even as silver prices rallied. All nine products registered slower week-over-week sales. The only silver coins to do better were the ones that missed out on the July 11th pricing cuts — the four commemorative silver coins honoring the Girls Scouts of the USA and the 5-Star Generals.
Update on Products that Sold Out
There are not any new product sellouts so far this week but in updates from two discussed last week, the U.S. Mint reported an increase of 4 to a new total of 3,506 for the proof Alice Paul gold coin and kept the tally at 60,000 for the Making American History Coin and Currency Set.
US Mint Sales: Bullion Silver Coins and Bullion Gold Coins
Historically, demand for bullion coins tends to wane in the dog days of summer. In July to date, that has been the case for gold coins but not for silver coins. At over 3.4 million so far, July 2013 already ranks as the best July and the thirteenth best month ever for the American Silver Eagle series that debuted in 1986.
The following grid offers the latest weekly and monthly sales for all U.S. Mint bullion products. The seven-day covers sales from July 18 to July 24, 2013.

Thanks for the report.
For what is worth, the OGP boxes containing 2013 5 oz silver national parks P mint pucks are continuing the trend of repurposing from earlier years. I have most recently noticed Vicksburg and Grand Canyon boxes. New stickers are placed over the old.
So this begs the question…were unsold pucks melted down?
Also, when is the federal reserve going to start releasing national park coins into circulation? I will admit that Chicago is in the backwoods but we still have no new quarters since the 2008 issues, and even the 08 statehood issues are scarce.
