Earlier today, Nov. 27, the United States Mint reduced prices on its numismatic platinum and gold coins. Then on Friday, Nov. 29, the Mint launches its first ever "Black Friday and Cyber Week Savings" promotion.
The two events are unrelated, but each offers U.S. Mint customers potential savings. Platinum and gold coin prices are now $50 less per ounce of precious metal content and the cyber promotion will save $4.95 on all domestic Web orders.
Prices for the platinum and gold coins can change up to weekly, with the next possible adjustments on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The Mint’s "Black Friday and Cyber Week Savings" promotion ends two days later at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 6.
This is the second time that the Mint has offered free standard shipping. Its "Sizzling Sumer Savings" promotion introduced the savings on Jul 26 and lasted until Sept. 30. Then, the U.S. Mint was trying to encourage customers to buy products online as it rolled out new Web-based sales enhancements.
As for coin prices, gold coins were adjusted based on a weekly average of London gold that fell within $1,200 to $1,249.99 an ounce, and platinum coins were priced on a weekly average of London platinum that dropped within $1,350 to $1,399.99 an ounce. This table highlights the pricing changes:

They should’ve reduced ASE W and ATB 5 oz coins with silver prices around $20/oz
Yeah, agreed. I would’ve clipped an extra $50 off the Platinum set also. If we didn’t have the price reduction due to the market conditions, their “Black Friday Promotion” was to save us $5 on shipping?
Whoop-dee-doo.
Happy Thanksgiving all…
A big big joke.
