This week’s round of U.S. Mint sales figures show out-of-the-gate performances for 2014 Kennedy half dollars and Great Smoky Mountains National Park Quarters Three-Coin Sets.
Released on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, the three-coin sets logged debuting sales of 9,578. That is down a bit from opening sales of the previous set but higher than starts from the two before that.

Debut Sales of 2014 Kennedy Half Dollars
Very briefly, since this coin news article covers the topic in detail and also offers prior-year comparisons, debut sales of 2014 Kennedy half dollars in bags and rolls strengthened over last year. Two-roll sets opened at 9,854 and 200-coin bags started at 2,982. A total of 979,760 coins sold, which is the strongest start since at least 2011.

This week’s U.S. Mint sales report includes 193 numismatic products. Setting aside the three products that just debuted, 88 outperformed their previous weekly sales compared to 57 in the last report. Among improving products were First Spouse Gold Coins, core clad proof sets, most of the quarters three-coin sets and many of the quarter bags and rolls. Sales of older two-roll sets of Kennedy half dollars also picked up.

The downward trend in sales continues in standard US mint offerings.
When do you think they’ll call more of the 2013 annual sets as SOLD OUT?
Do you think the downward trend is permanent or temporary? Maybe something will happen that will excite the market again? I doubt the hobby will die since it has been around for 4,000 years.
