Sold for $31.95, it has 14 coins produced in the U.S. Mint at San Francisco with each bearing the ‘S’ mint mark. Extra care is taken in striking these coins, although they are composed of the same metals as circulating issues. The set’s popularity is due, in part, to the special proof finish imparted to its coins that results in mirror-like backgrounds and frosted, sculpted foregrounds.

Of the 14 coins within the 2014 Proof Set, 10 are unique to 2014 because they bear one-year-only designs. These include the five 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters, the four 2014 Presidential $1 Coins and the 2014 Native American $1 Coin.

In 2009, the U.S. Mint began the current Native American $1 Coin series. Strikes of the program celebrate important contributions made by Indian tribes and individual Native Americans to the history and development of the United States. The 2014 issue commemorates Native American hospitality during the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It depicts a Native American man offering a pipe while his wife offers provisions of fish, corn, roots and gourds.
