Kangaroo and koala coins take center stage in July as part of the Perth Mint of Australia’s new releases for the month.
Of the dozen different coins debuting from the Perth Mint in early July, nine feature likenesses of the two marsupials struck in varying sizes of gold and silver. The remaining three showcase a kookaburra, a megalania and the power of flight.
Despite the apparent lack of subject diversity for the July releases, the new issues do offer a relatively broad spectrum of choices for coin collectors that range from an aluminum bronze $1 coin to a one-ounce gold coin.
Sales should spread well across the newest Mini Koala gold coin, a high relief silver kangaroo coin and gold proof coins in five sizes that commemorate the 25th anniversary of Australian Nugget gold coin program.

I really wanted the US to colorize it’s coins, but they haven’t. So I lit a candle and dropped little beads of wax color on a US coin, and then scraped the wax away from the major details. It didn’t look anywhere as good as these colored foreign coins, so I only did one. It is a reminder to me that if Color was intended to be in metal, the Powers that Be would have put it there…. Wait….it already is??? US Coins have Gold and Silver natural color? Well, I guess that means I don’t need any more prettified,… Read more »
