The dual-dated 1964-2014 Proof 50th Anniversary Kennedy Gold Coin and other U.S. Mint gold and platinum coins are poised for price declines

United States Mint numismatic platinum and gold coin prices are poised for reductions Wednesday because of recent declines in platinum and gold.

Wednesdays are when the Mint averages recent London gold and platinum fixings to determine if there’s a need to adjust its prices for products with the two metals. Gold’s weekly average is solidly within the $1,150.00 to $1,199.99 range and platinum’s average is sitting inside the $1,200.00 to $1,249.99 range. Both mark pricing tiers that are $50 lower than previous.

Coin News Update: The U.S. Mint did reduce coin prices on Wednesday. The pricing changes kicked in at around 2:00 p.m. ET, which is later than typical. New coin prices are shown in the "To" column below.

Platinum and gold prices on Wednesday must still be considered. The PM fixings are the ones to watch. If the PM gold Fix is below $1,200 an ounce, gold coin prices will be cut. Gold is now at $1,168 an ounce. If the PM platinum Fix is below $1,250 an ounce, the proof Platinum Eagle’s price will drop. Platinum is now at $1,219 an ounce. Here’s a table of likely coin prices:

Numismatic Gold Coin Products From To
2014-Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin $1,650.00 $1,600.00

2014 First Spouse Gold Coins include those honoring former first ladies Florence Harding, Grace Coolidge, Lou Hoover and Eleanor Roosevelt. The 2013-dated coins commemorate Edith Roosevelt, Ida McKinley, Edith Wilson, Ellen Wilson and Helen Taft.

When the United States Mint changes prices on its platinum and gold coins, it tends to freeze ordering of the affected products for around 30 minutes until the new prices go live. Adjustments usually happen around the noon hour. This coin news article will get updated with what actually happens.

I wonder if the mint will reduce gold 2 notches today since I see gold hovering below $1250 this morning?

jim

Depends on the week average of the London fix, not just yesterday’s or today’s close price.

Joe C.
