Looking for that unique gift for a wedding, anniversary, retirement, graduation or birthday? The U.S. Mint recommends its 2015 Congratulations Set for $50.95 — $4.00 less than last year.
Held within its festive-themed folder is a Proof American Silver Eagle — the Mint’s most popular collectible coin. This coin by itself was released earlier this month for $48.95 and reached sales of 262,377 in three days. It’s struck in one once of .999 fine silver to a proof finish.
One of the reasons they enjoy so much popularity is that proof finish. It appears on large, nearly 1.6-inch diameter surfaces and shows very sharp design details and mirror-like backgrounds, as seen in the photo above.
Then there are the designs themselves. American Silver Eagles have Adolph A. Weinman’s depiction of "Walking Liberty" on obverses and John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle with shield on reverses. Photos of both sides of the coin appear below.
The 2015 Congratulations Set’s folder is congratulatory-themed with silver and gold ribbons. The included 2015 Proof American Silver Eagle is encapsulated inside on the right with the left fold having an area to write a personalized message.
As final touches, a Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the back of the folder, and coin specifications appear on the back of a protective sleeve that wraps around the folder.
