Today, Feb. 26, the United States Mint started selling new $1 Coin Covers with Truman Presidential dollars.
This is the 33rd issue from the Mint’s America Presidency $1 Coin Cover Series, and it honors Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States.
For $19.95, this cover holds two circulating quality Truman Presidential $1 Coins. One was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, and the other one was struck at the Denver Mint. Both are from the first day of mintage on Nov. 17, 2014. They are mounted on a display card, which is held within an envelope that bears a Red, White, and Blue Forever® stamp.
The front side of the display card features a portrait of the president with a postmark of Feb. 26, 2015, Lamar, MO — representing the cover’s launch date and the town where Truman was born.
Backs of $1 display cards briefly offer information about Harry S. Truman, the dollar coins, and the cover itself.
Designs on Harry S. Truman Presidential $1 Coins
Designed and sculpted by Don Everhart, obverses or "heads side" of the dollar depict a likeness of Truman with surrounding inscriptions reading: HARRY S. TRUMAN, IN GOD WE TRUST, 33rd PRESIDENT and 1945-1953, for the years he served in the highest office.
All Presidential $1 Coins share reverse designs with Everhart’s up-close rendition of the Statue of Liberty. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and their face value of $1.
Also common to dollar coins are inscriptions incused around edges that show the year of minting, the ‘P’ or ‘D’ mint mark for the U.S. Mint facility of origin, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
