The Perth Mint of Australia on Monday released two silver coins depicting Captain Kathryn Janeway and the U.S.S. Voyager, the commander and starship from the science fiction television series Star Trek: Voyager.
Sold individually or as part of a two-coin set in special transporter-themed packaging, these officially licensed coins are in collector proof quality and in one ounce of 99.9% pure silver.
Previous program coins commemorate:
- Star Trek: The Original Series with a Captain James Kirk coin, a Spock coin and a U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 coin.
- Star Trek: The Next Generation with a Captain Jean-Luc Picard coin and a U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701D coin.
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with a Captain Benjamin Sisko coin and a Deep Space Nine coin.
Coin Designs and Specifications
2015 Captain Kathryn Janeway silver coins offer a reverse design depicting actor Kate Mulgrew in her role as the commander. She appears in front of the Star Trek emblem with a likeness of the U.S.S. Voyager to the side. Inscriptions include CAPTAIN KATHRYN JANEWAY, 1 OZ 999 SILVER, TM & © 2015 CBS ARR and the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The reverse of the U.S.S. Voyager silver coin features the ship itself flying away from a Borg cube in space. Reverse inscriptions are STAR TREK, VOYAGER, U.S.S. VOYAGER NCC-74656, 1 OZ 999 SILVER, TM & © 2015 CBS ARR and the Perth Mint mintmark.
Both coins are struck as legal tender of the island nation of Tuvalu and include the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on their obverse or heads side. Inscribed around her likeness are QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1 DOLLAR, TUVALU and 2015.
