The first U.S. Mint published sales of the gold Mercury dime came in at 122,510, or 98% of the possible 125,000.
Released on Thursday, the centennial gold coin lasted for about 40 minutes until becoming unavailable. Their sales are expected to reopen, likely in small spurts that won’t last long, as the U.S. Mint continues to reconcile orders and cancellations.

Mike Unser – Thanks for the data. I read on the Mint’s website 3 days ago on April 24 under their sales figures section that the gold Winged Liberty Head “Mercury” dimes did not sellout on first day of issue & they have 2,490 coins left to sell at a later TBD date. If readers didn’t get one on first day issue you might want to sign up on the Mint’s website for the “Remind Me” option to know when the leftovers will be offered. I got my 3 coins from the Mint yesterday, Tuesday April 26 by UPS Next… Read more »
“Remind Me” is useless, I have put it out there many times, I have gotten 1 reminder in the past 2 years. The Mint, making HSN money like the BEP prints the sutff….since 2010!

Mike “Sold Out, Limited Edition” Mezack has exactly 1,789 “2016 Mercury Gold Dimes” for sale in ANACS SP70 graded condition.
Christopher Williams – I had it on my calendar to look up HSN website today at noon when Mezack said he would have his gold dimes for sale. I looked after lunch & almost threw up – he has his “exclusive” ANACS label coins for $499.95 in 70 grade with 1,789 coins available like you said. He also works for Cable Shopping Network (CSN) & has a different “exclusive” ANACS label of a limited edition of 1,916 coins at $499.95 also! Lol. He is a dirty rotten scoundrel like the title of one of my favorite comedy movies! What a… Read more »
I forgot to mention on my last comment that L&C Coin Company in Los Alamitos California has the PCGS 70 grade gold dimes at only $350 & the PCGS 69 grade gold dimes at only $295. A fair price for sure compared to other offerings online & they are an advertiser in Coin World newspaper & I purchased a great 2006 ASE 20th anniversary 3-coin set from them with problem-free coins for only $243 a few months ago during their 10% off sale & I got a set that looked like no one had ever even opened it, with pristine… Read more »
It is hard to know who to trust anymore. PCGS has always been the grading company I relied on. But with this SP going on I don’t know. And the mint, I always went by what they say. They had told some people “yes they are sold out” and then we find out there are more to be sold at a latter date. The Mint posted “Currently Unavailable” so they really did not post on their website that they were sold out. But people called or emailed and were told they were indeed sold out. They need to tell all… Read more »
As if it was not bad enough, dont forget the counterfeit chinese knockoffs and look-alike holders.
This sale really ticks me off. Obviously, if you’re a working stiff who can’t be poised over a keyboard at the moment of release, you’re screwed. Forty minutes. What a travesty.
Mike Unser – Were you able to purchase any of the gold Winged Liberty Head dimes on first day of issue from the Mint? If so, can you share photos of your coins? You usually publish your new coin photos within a few days of release. It has been 8 days since they were issued now. I got my 3 coins on Tuesday morning by UPS Next Day delivery (I paid the extra expedited shipping & handling of $20.95 that I always do for peace of mind). I lucked out & got 3 problem-free coins that would probably grade 70… Read more »
Seth-
The two coins I ordered arrived today, here on the ‘Left Coast.’
I just paid the $4.95 standard shipping and arranged with UPS to pick them up at the local facility, no problems.
This coin is indeed a beauty and a keeper.
Cheers,
Mammoth
Mammoth – Congrats! Thanks for sharing your info on these beauties. I have a feeling from the actual photos I have seen from collectors that received their gold dimes that a lot of these will grade 70 which is great, but might keep the market a little lower in price difference between 69 & 70. One of your “Left Coast” coin dealers that I have bought from before L&C Coins in Los Alamitos, California has the PCGS 69 coins available at $295 & the PCGS 70 for only $55 more at $350. Lowest price I have seen so far. Luckily… Read more »
The US Mint offers truly shoddy service and there should be a housecleaning. Fortunate to receive the gold Mercury Dime with a few other items, the outer shipping box has corner holes from compression and faulty packing as there was almost no tape on the shipping box . The outer boxes of the Mercury Dime and other other items were crushed. The Mint indicates that everything has to be sent back and was advised against it as there are no Mercury Dimes. They will not permit that the boxes be returned. First they mess up the sales like the baseball… Read more »
hey there uncommons, U are spot on man! I no longer try to buy from the mint directly as their online ordering does not exist… for example, there was a 10 household limit put on the 2016 gold mercury dime. The dime sold out in 15 minutes. ok, I will buy that one, however, check out the bullion dealers and they all have at least 100 to sell, and even the pcgs sp70’s are fully in stock ready to ship.. my advice to you is shop ebay at this point.. I bid 10 pcgs ms70’s and got 3 for a… Read more »
I bought one of the dimes 2nd time the mint had them up for sale. What I thought was a little dot on the dime was actually on the plastic. I have a light on my little magnifier And noticed the shadow of the dot shading different parts of the dime as I was moving it around. I find it disgusting that the mint sold out and when picked over they resold them. Does this dot make mine a lesser of a grade? I was going to send it back untill I noticed it was not on the dime. That… Read more »
