Sales of U.S. Mint collector products grew slower during the first week of August following gains that peaked to a 2-1/2 month high in the last week of July. Nearly a dozen of them actually moved backwards. Circulating-quality Reagan dollars led those declines.
Five of the six Reagan dollar roll, bag and box products retreated, accounting for a combined drop of 39,575 coins. Their overall sales, now totaling more than 3.9 million coins, are still poised to pass those of earlier 2016 dollars for former Presidents Ford and Nixon.
The U.S. Mint published sales updates to 237 collector products. Seventy-four of them outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to 132 previously — the strongest level since the week ended May 22. Like in the prior report but to a lesser degree, many of the 2016 commemorative coins were among products to post the strongest increases.

- 2016 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set (+455 to 73,926)
- 2016 Mark Twain Proof Silver Dollars (+447 to 69,086)
In addition to the five products with Reagan dollars, six other collectibles had their sales total reduced. The 2016-W Proof American Platinum Eagle fell for a fifth week in a row. Its weekly losses include amounts of 192; 166; 165; 10; and now 61. Its new total is 9,224 of the originally allotted 10,000 coins.

Look at the sales of the “2016 NPS” coins.

Unfortunately, you can look @ stamp collecting for where WE are heading. Coins & bullion will always have their intrinsic value, but in 10, 15 years who will care about a 1939-D Jefferson….or a reverse proof ASE of which ter are +100k minted, it will be melt value most likely. Kids don’t care., coins & money are alot sexier then stamps, but the collecting aspect is going away as there are no newbies say under 35/40….IF the mint made say 10/20% silver coinse for circulation then maybe change pluking would return, but as we have it we have a problem… Read more »
When the U.S. (f.u.b.a.r.) Mint forced me out of four-in-a-row historical coins with stamps – I quit buying from them. Period. Gold, silver, and platinum offerings especially.
All four were within 10 minutes of going on sale – and their $10 million dollar website was about as fouled-up as their high school educated management team appears to be on the whole.
They have really been fouled-up since 2008 – look at the mintages. The graphs tell a story of a thousand words. Even their phones do not work.
Sadly…
