Star Trek Insignia Replicated in Delta-Shaped Silver Coin for 50th Anniversary

Collectors can look to a fictional future while recalling a popular TV series from the past with a new silver coin from the Perth Mint of Australia. Celebrating the 50th anniversary Star Trek™: The Original Series, the coin depicts the unique delta shield insignia of Starfleet.

Officially licensed and limited to 5,000 pieces, each delta-shaped coin is composed from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver to collector proof quality.

The original Star Trek show debuted on television in 1966 and ran for only three seasons. In the decades since, however, the franchise has grown to include multiple television series and over a dozen major motion pictures.

Star Trek Silver Coin Design and Specifications

Within the coin’s delta shape, the reverse (tails side) shows the Star Trek shield insignia and a ’50’ to mark the show’s golden anniversary. Trademark inscriptions complete the design.

These coins are released as legal tender of the island nation of Tuvalu. Accordingly, the obverse (heads side) offers a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions of TUVALU, 2016, QUEEN ELIZABETH II, the face value of 1 DOLLAR and the composition of 1 OZ 999 SILVER.

This coin is housed in a "space-age" acrylic display case within a themed shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The Perth Mint does indicate a delay in the coin’s delivery, saying:

Darrin Lee Unser – This coin was issued on September 6 by the Perth Mint Australia. I ordered one with some other coins from them & have it already. It is fantastic! But, the Perth Mint made an “error” by stating in its early press releases & on its website & on the serialized COAs that the coin has the Perth Mint’s “P” Mint mark. It does not! I ordered one of these bad boys today. It will be a great addition to my RCM pure gold coin -Star Trek TM Delta coin and my 20 for 20 Start Trek silver coin. I am such a fan of Star Trek.
