Precious metals futures changed little Thursday, aside from palladium which was also alone for the day with a loss.
Gold for December delivery added $2.90, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,269.50 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"The constant strength in the U.S. dollar serves as an inhibiting factor to the upside. We were higher, volume was moderate with little real enthusiasm to speak of," Reuters quoted Bill O’Neill, co-founder of LOGIC Advisors. "I think short term, the interest rate concerns are there … but long term I still think the market is going to go higher."
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,265.20 to a high of $1,273.70. They shed 0.6% on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, silver for December rose 1.3 cents, or less than 0.1%, to close at $17.639 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $17.54 and $17.73. In the previous session, they slipped 0.9%.
