Early U.S. Mint sales figures are now available for quarters celebrating Missouri’s Ozark National Scenic Riverways and a silver set of 2017 coins.
Released last week on Tuesday, June 5, the Ozark Riverways quarter is the third of five 2017-dated issues. Its reverse depicts Alley Mill, a steel roller mill built in 1894 to convert wheat into flour.
Available U.S. Mint products include quarter rolls and bags from Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco with mint marks of ‘P’, ‘D’ and ‘S’. The amount of quarters sold through the first seven days totaled 1,887,900, which is lower than the starts of other recent issues. Early sales for quarter designs since 2016 tallied to:
- 2,009,180 (over first two weeks) for Frederick Douglas quarter (DC)
- 1,890,460 for 2017 Effigy Mounts quarter (Iowa)

Commission of Fine Arts meeting yesterday – U.S. Mint officials want a 2018 American Liberty $10 tenth-ounce gold African-American Lady Liberty coin so more collectors can afford the beautiful design. CCAC meets on 21st to approve it.
Great news for sure!

Umm, no, the concensus is that it is an ugly coin, and commercial failure.
Lady Liberty is not African. This is Cultural Misappropriation at its worst. Lady Liberty is a symbol of the European values that founded this nation. It is racist to make her African. The Mint should be ashamed of this bigotry.
There were some 5000 Black Patriots who fought for freedom. Portugal, Britain, France and Holland were the main trader of slaves with colonies in Africa. This was a European value that founded this great nation. Crispus Attucks was the first Patriot to die for our nation he was part of the Boston massacre. Attucks dad was an African slave. But we are all of the same blood. Happy Fathers Day.
Mike Unser & CoinNews readers FYI –
The Mint has released sales figures for the 2017-P Proof American Liberty silver medals at 24,233 sold on first day of Wednesday June 14 & another almost 6,600 sold by Friday. Almost 31,000 sold in 2 days at $59.95 each plus $4.95 S&H is a good response.

TY for the numbers update Numisdude! I’m glad I got mine. Gary Lomax deep breaths and relax! Your consensus is your consensus. It’s a beautiful design. And the face actually has details instead of a vague facial design or looking like a grandma from Victorian days. I like those coins too but this coin is different and change is good.
Gary Lomax—-Thanks for the good points—-This political design is over the top
Gary, Liberty is a concept not a white chick….See Native American Liberty on Capital Dome….it is an ugly designbut not due to the race of Liberty, the deign is cluttered, STARS stand out, Eagle lost his tail…….Eunice Shriver still is the doggiest design until they issue the Poodle Celebration commems in 2020….
Chas Barber –
A blast from the past! That Eunice Kennedy Shriver commemorative $1 from 1995 when she was still alive caused all kinds of controversy & her portrait was hideous – I still don’t know why she approved it! But she did good work for the Special Olympics & surcharges of $10 each went to that charity. She is still the only person on a legal tender USA coin that was alive at the time it was issued going back to some of the older” commem half dollars before 1954.
