Precious metals futures declined Thursday. Losses for gold, silver and platinum were their first in three sessions.
Gold for August delivery declined $3.30 cents, or 0.3%, to settle at $1,245.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"In recent days, we’ve seen a global bond selloff, including U.S. Treasurys, that has lifted [market] interest rates in a manner that’s bearish for gold," MarketWatch quoted Brien Lundin, editor of Gold Newsletter.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,239.70 to a high of 1,253.20. They added 0.2% on Wednesday, edged up 0.04% on Tuesday and slipped 0.8% on Monday.
Silver for September delivery — the new, most active contract — slipped 13.7 cents, or 0.8%, to settle at $16.654 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $16.61 and $16.92. They gained 0.8% in the previous session, climbed 0.1% on Tuesday, and fell 0.5% in their start to the week on Monday.

October platinum dipped $1.10, or 0.1%, to $923.10 an ounce, ranging from $911.60 to $928.20.
- Palladium for September delivery fell $8.50, or 1%, to $846.10 an ounce, trading between $843.55 and $860.95. Palladium’s decline was its third straight.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Wednesday PM to Thursday PM:
- Gold fell $4.50, or 0.4%, to $1,243.50 an ounce.
- Silver rose 5 cents, or 0.3%, to $16.83 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
