Precious metals futures were little changed Wednesday. Gold, silver and palladium logged slight gains while platinum declined modestly.
Gold for December delivery tacked on $3.70, or 0.3%, to settle at $1,294.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"The price of gold appears stuck in the mud, looking for any bit of news that can get the wheels spinning again," Reuters quoted Walter Pehowich, executive vice president of investment services at Dillon Gage Metals. "Helping a little is a weaker dollar and softer Treasury yields."
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,287.90 to a high of $1,297. They declined 0.4% on Tuesday and climbed 0.4% on Monday to mark their best close since June 6.
Elsewhere, silver for September delivery added 6.4 cents, or 0.4%, to settle at $17.046 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $16.91 and $17.09. They dipped 0.2% in the previous session and edged up 0.09% on Monday.
In PGM futures on Wednesday:

October platinum slipped 40 cents, or less than 0.1%, to $980.90 an ounce, ranging from $976.80 to $986.50.
- Palladium for September delivery added 65 cents, or less than 0.1%, to $933 an ounce, trading between $928.35 and $939.50. On Monday, they ended at $939 an ounce for their highest settlement since February 2001.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Tuesday PM to Wednesday PM:
- Gold added $2.45 or 0.2%, to 1,286.65 an ounce.
- Silver added 4 cents, or 0.2%, to $17.06 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
